BLOOM:
Roots of Renewal
bloom
Fall 2021 WolverineSoft Studio
Created in a team of 20 students over the course of one semester, Bloom: Roots of Renewal is an expansion on the studio's earlier release Bloom: Tome of Power.
Bloom is an educational case study on Bethesda's Quake, taking inspiration from it and other games in the genre for much of its game mechanics while still providing a fresh and fun experience.
my role
WolverineSoft is the University of Michigan's video game development club. Every semester, we run a student-led studio as part of the school's Multi-Disciplinary Project program. In the summer of 2020, the studio created Bloom: Tome of Power. In fall 2021, the studio decided to continue working on Bloom and expand on the game. I joined the studio for the first time that fall and took on the role of Technical Art Director, working closely with both the Creative Art Director and directors of other departments to plan, design, and complete Bloom: Roots of Renewal. I spent 6+ hours a week attending playtest sessions, meeting with our artists, and personally brainstorming and creating assets.
